February Meeting: Senior Options Counseling

Location: Oregon Cascades West Council of Governments, ABC Conference Room, 1400 Queen Ave SE, Albany. Guests welcome.

Speaker: Carrie Campora*, Case Manager, Senior and Disability Services

Options Counseling is one of several State of Oregon Resources and Programs that are for older adults. Presenters will also talk about some other programs that are available including those that help people who family care givers and information about the Oregon Project Independence (and some changes).

Options Counseling service: An interactive decision support process whereby individuals, family members, and/or others are supported in their deliberations to determine long-term support choices in the context of the consumer’s needs, preferences, values, and individual circumstances. Intended for non-Medicaid consumers.

  • Helps to prevent or delay premature institutionalization by offering options to help individuals spend resources wisely in the community
  • Person centered planning optimize choice and independence
  • Encourage personal responsibility
  • Empowers the individual
  • Structured process to define goals and outcomes

*About our speaker: With over 12 years of dedicated advocacy at the COG, Carrie Campora is a part of the agency’s mission of ensuring seniors and individuals with disabilities have access to the in-home services and long-term care support they need. As an OAA Case Manager at the Oregon Cascade West Council of Governments for more than a decade, Carrie has built a wealth of experience, focusing on empowering vulnerable individuals to make informed decisions about their care.

Carrie holds a Bachelor of Science in Gerontology from Black Hills State University, providing her with a solid foundation in aging and care systems, which fuels her commitment to improving the quality of life for those she serves.

Guided by a person-centered care philosophy, Carrie is dedicated to educating and empowering individuals and families from all backgrounds, ensuring they understand their options and feel supported in their decisions. She emphasizes the importance of connecting people with local community resources, making sure that everyone—regardless of income, race, or ability—can navigate both in-home and out-of-home care solutions.

Carrie is deeply committed to breaking down barriers and providing inclusive, culturally sensitive support. She strives to ensure that all individuals are not only well-informed but treated with dignity and respect throughout the decision-making process. Her mission is to create an equitable environment where every person, regardless of identity or circumstance, can access the care they seek—tailored to their unique needs, preferences, and goals.
